  1. A discussion with the men behind the EconStories video.

  2. Too little too late, but here were the Philadelphia Libertarian congressional candidates. I went to the same high school as Gerald J. Harlacker. I met him a few times, and I know him to be a decent guy. If I lived in the 1st District, he would have had my vote. As I’m registered in the 2nd District, my vote went to Jonathan Reed.

  3. Those are called “members of the public”, congressman, and they have a right to know whether you “fully support the Obama agenda”.

I suspect that if a tea-party candidate “manhandled” a MoveOn supporter who “pressed him to explain votes or positions,” Mother Jones and Kevin Drum would be unlikely to entertain the possibility that the democrats were acting like a bunch of “seventh-graders”.

The print version of Mother Jones is not this consistently awful. I swear! It’s usually a very thoughtful magazine. I think they flush their doo-doo down their twitter feed… Read the rest of this entry »

May 23, 2010
  1. The fun part of being a libertarian is that you get to blame the government for all your problems. The hard part, and the part that drives people away from the ideology, is that you have to relinquish your sense of entitlement. No, you are not entitled as a matter of natural right to carry your luggage onto an airplane at no charge. The airlines are providing a service for you, and they have certain terms that you must either accept or reject. Who knows? The baggage charge might reward those who economize by reducing their overall ticket price…..

  2. The chief of police of Columbia, Missouri, where the now-viral video of a marijuana raid was filmed, wishes the marijuana law reform movement success. Read the rest of this entry »

  1. Pennsylvania’s Department of Revenue has already shed the pretense that its residents do not live in an Orwellian State.  The voice should have gone on to say: “Ignorance of the law is no excuse, Tom. You know you have a civic duty to understand and abide by Pennsylvania’s Personal Income Tax Code. We’ve even put it online for you.”

  2. Former Philly DA Lynne Abraham: "Welcome to Philadelphia, Light Up a Joint."

The national debt is pushing $13,000,000,000,000. Since the beginning of last November, the federal government spent has $1,000,000,000,000 more dollars that it did not have. I tell you, this health care bill had better take a huge-ass chunk off of the deficit, and fast.

  3. Hey, that’s great, Lynne. Just let us know when we can expect to receive your annual $3,000,000 donation to pay for the adjudication of these small-time dope smokers. Read the rest of this entry »

  1. The Cato Institute posts this excellent intro to Libertarianism to share with your interested friends and family. At the end, Stossel asks for alternatives to the term “Libertarian”. I liked the term a lot until I learned that it used to be the term for “leftist anarchism”. I’d like to come up with another term to avoid the confusion.

  1. Philadelphia Daily News | Troopers raid popular bars for unlicensed beers: Dozens of gallons seized after 'citizen complaint'

"'My main beef with this whole convoluted situation is that the PLCB is the sole regulator of a set of products that they do not even know the names of,' she said." … "Maida said that the couple's attorney had told them that they have until 6 p.m. tonight to compile evidence to prove that the confiscated beer is properly registered. 'The onus is on us to prove our innocence,' she said."

I'm trying to imagine these citizens who apparently carry the PLCB list of registered beers in their hip pockets, just in case somebody offers them a beer they do not recognize….

  2. YouTube | Hitchens Destroys the Cult of Ayn Rand

I've never read any Ayn Rand. I bought "The Fountainhead" in audiobook form on clearance a couple months ago. I have not yet listened. Based on what I've heard about her and her cult, I do not disagree with anything Hitchens says here. I understand that Rand had no love for the Libertarian Party. Read the rest of this entry »
